My favourite animal is me in binge mode. She’s a snack-gobbling, nearly immobile creature with eyes the size of golf balls. She doesn’t take phone calls or respond to texts; she’s a little liberal with deadlines, but she does have impeccable taste in TV shows. Her final act of love is giving you a list of some of the best shows she has watched recently. (Note, I am being very economical with information because spoilers).
- Inconceivable
This is my current watch. I am 11 episodes into the 13-episode season, and when I tell you I have been pleasantly stressed by this show, I mean, I have been stressed. The characters are so messed up, the story line is chaos…you just have to see this one yourself.
2. The Mindy Project
We’re bringing out the classics now. This is a great low commitment, background noise show starring and created by Mindy Kaling. It’s one of my current comfort shows, and I love it because it doesn’t surprise you or upset your day in any way. It follows the very simple rules of sitcom. Something happens. We solve it. We move on. It does however, tend (as most sitcoms do) to get a little ridiculous as the seasons go by. Do watch out for that, but still a good non-committal show.
3. A Black Lady Sketch Show
I love sketch comedy. You never really know what direction it will take, and it somehow always ends up more unhinged than you could have imagined. My commitment was always to Saturday Night Live and then Key and Peele. A Black Lady Sketch Show does hold its own against these. Sure, some of the sketches fall flat, but for the most part, this show is hilarious.
4. Parenthood
I love a good family drama and have been in mourning since This Is Us ended. So I had to go back into the archives for something remotely close. Listen, this is no This Is Us, not by a hundred miles. But it is a family show that feels like a hug and will have to do until someone creates a new family show.
5. All Her Fault
I debated whether or not to put this here because I watched it in December of last year, but I have thought about it everyday since I watched it. It has everything: drama, thriller, suspense, romance (if our bar is in the toilet), crime, just a messy ball of chaos, which I absolutely loved. I don’t know if I would watch it again because it’s one of those shows that leave your brain hurting. But please do watch it. I definitely left the best for last.
If you have made it to the end of this list, thank you. It’s not what we usually write and read here, but thank you for humouring me. I have had a hectic couple of days, and this list is what I could whip up in a jiffy.
Next week will be better!

I struggled with A Black Lady Sketch so much…
